Clarius Skills Index supported by Lloyd Morgan

The Clarius Skills Index is Australia’s first ever National skills index that measures the extent of skilled labour shortages or oversupply across 19 occupation categories.

Until now, tracking the fluctuating employment trends in various sectors has been difficult.

The launch of the unique Clarius Skills Index supported by Lloyd Morgan aims to help businesses and governments get a clearer picture of past, current and future predictions of skilled labour demand and supply around Australia every quarter.

To achieve our goal, we needed a high-end partner to collate and interpret the available statistics, so we have joined with one of the most highly respected economic analytical groups in Australia, KPMG Econtech.

In the latest March 2009 Quarter Clarius Skills Index, figures show that the labour market has eased in all occupations during this quarter – professionals, associate professionals and tradespeople.

For the quarter ending March 2009, the index was balanced at 100.4. This figure is 2.0% lower than the 102.5 recorded in the previous December 2008 quarter, and 2.8% lower than the 103.3 registered at the same time last year.
